The author of No Naughties, Tarja Moles, is making treats in her kitchen.My name is Tarja Moles and I confess to having a sweet tooth. Nothing wrong with that, you might think, but when you have multiple dietary restrictions, this can be a problem.

When I had to cut out gluten, sugar and yeast from my already low-lactose diet in 2002, I thought I would be forced to forgo desserts for the rest of my life. I stood despondently by patisserie windows and salivated. I had serious dessert-envy every time I went to a restaurant: my friends would finish off their meals with amazing-looking puddings while I had to be content with sipping peppermint tea.

As my frustration grew, I decided to start experimenting how to make sweet treats without the ‘naughty’ ingredients. Initially, there were more disasters than successes: uncaramelised caramel sauces; cakes that were so rubbery they bounced like balls; soggy biscuits that had to be eaten with a spoon. However, over the years I have figured out how many substitute ingredients work and accordingly my success rate has significantly improved.

No Naughties brings you recipe ideas, tips and information on how to make your life a sweet celebration. You don’t have to be naughty and eat things that don’t agree with your body – it’s perfectly possible to avoid sugar, wheat, gluten, yeast and other allergens, and still enjoy indulging your taste buds!

  1. Hi Tarja! I’m excited that I discovered your blog through ex-sugarholic. I follow a plant-based diet (no meat, dairy, processed foods including sugar), and starting today I’m giving up gluten, soy and nightshade vegetables. I’m doing this for a month as an experiment to see if they help with my allergies. Anyway, I’m excited that you’ve perfected some not naughty sweet treats. I see that you’ve even written a book – how exciting!! I’m going to go poke around your blog a bit now. Celeste :)

      Although not all my recipes are vegan, I hope you’ll find something suitable every now and then (for example, the hazelnut and chocolate cookies are vegan).
